Couture Clash - Netflix Pitch

Glitter Gags and Glam Galore in Silk City

Created by Tomer Rousso

Produced by the Oscar-nominated studio, The Hive.

Couture Clash

Couture Clash is a hilarious romp into the wild world of fashion design, where creativity meets absurdity, and diva attitudes are the daily uniform. Our cast of fashion misfits hail from a circus of backgrounds – from an ex-pole vaulter and mime artist to a pasta-chef-turned-designer and a spacesuit embellisher. Here, high stakes assignments meet lowbrow humor as designers vie to outdo each other on assignments that range from sustainable fashion to designing for non-humanoid bodies. Throw in a sprinkle of tantrums, an incessant war of egos, and a flurry of sequins, and you've got a sitcom that's about as cohesive as a cowboy hat on a spacesuit. Hold on to your sewing kits, because in "Couture Clash", the only thing more outrageous than the fashion is the designers themselves.

Lola "Lo" Harrington

Once a professional pole vaulter for the British Olympic team, Lola's career took an unexpected turn when she mistook a fashion show runway for her pole vaulting practice. Her unorthodox entrance and unexpected flair caught the eye of a talent scout in the audience. Now, she tackles fashion design with the same gusto as pole vaulting, and yes, she uses her pole to measure fabric lengths.

Alessandra "Ally" Moretti

Italian-born Ally was once a world-renowned pasta chef until one fateful day she accidentally spilled tomato sauce on her white apron and everyone admired the "design". Inspired, she quit cooking and started designing. She occasionally uses pasta shapes for design inspiration, causing many lasagna versus ravioli debates.

Claire "Calamity" Kincaid

Claire was a mime artist in the streets of Paris until she realized he had a knack for designing when he started creating his own mime costumes. The louder the outfit, the less he had to perform to grab people's attention. He carries a white mime glove with him always, claiming it's his lucky charm.

EPISODE 1
Trash to Flash

In the pilot episode of "Couture Clash", we are introduced to the outlandishly diverse team of fashion designers at a high-end fashion design workshop. The series opens amidst a whirl of fabric, patterns, and a frenzied energy that only a couture workshop can embody. As the designers navigate through their tasks, their eccentricities are in full bloom, whether it's Lola Harrington, the dramatic ex-supermodel constantly lamenting about the lighting, or Jazz Bonvivant flamboyantly displaying his latest 'masterpiece'.

The episode's main event comes in the form of a challenge – the team is assigned to design a high-fashion piece solely using recycled materials. The announcement of the task sets off a wave of disgruntled murmurs, providing the perfect setup for their uniquely ridiculous arguments. Snobbish heiress Alessandra Moretti equates recycled materials with garbage bags, while former marine biologist Sven Bjornson lauds the focus on sustainability.

As they scramble to claim the best recycled materials, the designers' competitive streaks surface, leading to hilarious clashes. These conflicts range from disputes over vintage lace curtains to even fighting about what constitutes as 'recycled', resulting in comically earnest attempts at being 'sustainable', including insisting on fair-trade coffee during their design sessions.

In true sitcom fashion, the episode delves into a series of absurdities as the designers, with zero self-awareness, passionately argue over these ludicrous matters. The episode ends with a cliffhanger, leaving the viewers amused and curious to see how the designers' recycled fashion will turn out, and who will have the last laugh in this couture clash. The pilot perfectly sets the tone for the series, promising a riotous journey through the chaotic, hilarious world of high fashion.

EPISODE 2
Upcycle Upheaval

In the second episode of "Couture Clash," the high-energy chaos continues, with the team recovering from the recycled material frenzy of the first episode. The designers are all busy at work, creating their couture pieces from the recycled materials they fought so hard to claim. Amidst the flurry of old newspapers and discarded sequins, the unique quirks of our characters become even more apparent. From Chen Li trying to incorporate principles of aerospace engineering into a dress, to Anjali Kapoor attempting to infuse Bollywood drama into her designs, it's clear this isn't your ordinary design team.

The second episode's surprise comes in the form of a sudden deadline change. Anjali, waving yet another piece of paper, announces that they have only 24 hours left to complete their designs. This launches the team into a frenzy, with the stress level only amplified by Claire "Calamity" Kincaid's reckless attempts to speed up her design process, involving a daring use of a hot glue gun and a leaf blower.

As the countdown begins, the workshop turns into a battlefield, littered with fabric scraps and flying sequins. In their frantic rush, the designers start blaming each other for missing materials, leading to petty accusations and hysterical debates over who stole whose vintage buttons. Our former mime, Jazz Bonvivant, takes a vow of silence to "preserve his creative energies," only communicating via elaborate miming, much to the annoyance and confusion of the others.

Despite the escalating chaos, there are moments of hilarity and unexpected camaraderie. Lola and Ally end up sharing a rare moment of agreement over the "obvious superiority" of rhinestones over sequins. Sven's cool composure amidst the storm of tantrums and flying fabric adds a touch of absurd humor as he quietly persists in creating couture from compostable material.

The episode concludes with the designers, utterly exhausted, presenting their finished pieces to each other. The designs, a bizarre mix of outrageous creativity and absurd elements, perfectly embody the spirit of the show. Despite the hilarious bickering and seemingly endless clash, at the end of the day, they've created something truly unique from what was once seen as 'trash', setting the stage for even more hilarious, outlandish couture clashes in the future.

EPISODE 3
Galactic Garments and
Invisible Ensembles

In the third episode of "Couture Clash", the designers, still reeling from the sleep-deprived chaos of the previous episode, are hit with an entirely new and exciting challenge - designing an ensemble for extraterrestrials. With no constraints on their imagination, the team launches into the task with comical enthusiasm, even though they have absolutely no idea what an extraterrestrial would look like or what their clothing preferences might be.

The comical highlight of the episode is when Chen Li, the former astronautical engineer, attempts to explain the various species of aliens according to science fiction, and what sort of fashion they might appreciate. The others laugh him off, leading to an absurdly passionate debate about the likelihood of fashionable extraterrestrial life. Jazz, the French mime, decides his alien will only wear invisible clothes and begins to put together an "ensemble" no one can see.

As the episode unfolds, we get a window into their bizarre design processes, which involve interpreting "extraterrestrial fashion" in the most unusual ways. Anjali Kapoor, our Bollywood stuntwoman, insists on the importance of "dance-ready" intergalactic couture, while Lola Harrington pushes for ultra-glamorous, space-age designs. All the while, Sven Björnson makes a curious attempt at designing a self-heating ensemble for cold alien planets.

Their workshop quickly devolves into a scene from a sci-fi fantasy as they work with neon fabrics, holographic materials, and more. An attempt at using 'gravity-defying' accessories leads to a hilariously disastrous fashion accident involving a pair of anti-gravity boots and a rather surprised Claire Kincaid.

The episode concludes on a high note, with the designers presenting their outlandish extraterrestrial ensembles. From Sven's self-heating space suit to Jazz's invisible ensemble, the runway show is like nothing seen before. Despite the clash of ideas, they successfully pull off the challenge with an array of spectacularly hilarious designs, leaving the audience anticipating more absurd, comical couture clashes to come.

EPISODE 4
Haute Cuisine Catastrophe

In the fourth episode of "Couture Clash", the fashion design workshop becomes a surreal food paradise as the designers are tasked with the most unlikely of assignments: creating a collection for a haute cuisine fashion show. The catch? Every piece must incorporate actual food items. From spaghetti straps made of real spaghetti to a gown decorated with sushi, the absurdity of the task doesn't escape the designers.

The episode teems with hilarious chaos as the designers grapple with the culinary world. There's a comical squabble when the designers rush to claim the most exotic foods for their outfits. Claire "Calamity" Kincaid ends up with a wheel of cheese and starts crafting a pair of ‘Cheese Chaps', while Jasper "Jazz" Bonvivant finds inspiration in the vibrant colors of macarons.

Meanwhile, Alessandra "Ally" Moretti and Anjali Kapoor descend into a ridiculous argument over the use of caviar vs. curry as embellishments. On the other hand, Lola Harrington develops a sudden and rather melodramatic seafood allergy, leading to a series of over-the-top reactions whenever she comes close to Sven Björnson's seaweed-draped ensemble.

The frantic work session is interspersed with a multitude of culinary catastrophes. An attempt at a hot sauce tie ends in a fiery disaster, and a fruit salad hat attracts an invasion of fruit flies. The designers discover that working with food isn't quite as easy as they thought, and the workshop echoes with the sounds of their frustrated, comical laments.

As the episode concludes, the designers parade their finished culinary creations on the in-house runway. From Jazz's macaron-studded suit to Claire's cheese chaps, the looks are as ludicrous as they are delicious. The episode closes with the designers watching in horrified fascination as the models start eating their outfits off each other, leaving them to wonder if they've truly bitten off more than they can chew in this couture clash.

EPISODE 5
Child's Play in the Couture Way

In the fifth episode of "Couture Clash", the designers face the most daunting challenge yet: to create a luxury collection for children. Given that their previous designs have been wildly avant-garde and at times impractical, designing for children stirs up a whirlwind of confusion and comedic misunderstandings about what is suitable and appealing for a child.

The episode opens with Jasper "Jazz" Bonvivant staring bewilderedly at a onesie, while Anjali Kapoor earnestly suggests incorporating a full Bollywood dance sequence into a toddler's dress. Meanwhile, Lola Harrington decides that luxury for children must include miniature versions of adult haute couture, leading to a comically small ball gown intended for a six-month-old.

The highlight of this episode lies in a hilariously heartfelt discussion about their own childhood clothing experiences. This includes a reveal about Sven Björnson's history as a child fashion model for sustainable winter wear in Sweden and a confession from Claire "Calamity" Kincaid about her childhood obsession with cowboy boots, prompting her to design a pair of fringed baby booties.

Throughout the episode, the designers grapple with making their designs both child-friendly and high fashion, leading to a series of comical trial and error. At one point, Chen Li's attempt to make a child's outfit 'aerodynamic' leads to a laughable incident involving a wind tunnel and a baby mannequin. Similarly, Alessandra "Ally" Moretti's idea of a child's luxury outfit, complete with faux fur and glitter, ends up looking more like a miniature Vegas showgirl costume.

The episode ends with a hilarious fashion show featuring their luxury children's collection. Despite the chaos, the designers manage to pull together a runway show that is as much a tribute to their childlike creativity as it is a showcase of their design skills. This episode perfectly encapsulates the absurd humor and heart that makes "Couture Clash" such a unique and entertaining viewing experience.

EPISODE 6
Haute Couture for Hounds

Assignment: The team is asked to design a line of avant-garde dog fashion for a celebrity dog show.

Conflict: Designers bicker over everything from the comfort of pets to the interpretation of canine high fashion. Discussions devolve into hilariously petty arguments about dog breeds, their personalities, and even a heated debate about whether a Chihuahua would look better in a tuxedo or a sequined jumpsuit.

EPISODE 7
Monochrome Madness

Assignment: The designers must create a range of outfits for a monochrome-themed party, using only shades of a single color of their choice.

Conflict: Designers fight over who gets which color, leading to comical bargaining sessions and ridiculous attempts to claim colors. Eventually, they argue about what really counts as a shade of their chosen color, with someone invariably trying to pass off teal as a shade of blue, inciting further chaos.

EPISODE 8
Post-Apocalyptic Chic

Conflict: The designers engage in absurd disputes about what a post-apocalyptic world would look like and what would be necessary, with someone trying to integrate solar panels into a dress or another attempting to incorporate an inflatable raft into a jacket. Arguments about the appropriateness of accessories like gas masks and canned food purses become the order of the day.
